Swedish Massage (top) Swedish Massage uses rhythmic and relaxing strokes from head to toe that soothe your entire being. This calming full body massage is excellent for stress reduction, relaxation, increased circulation and lymphatic flow, preventing injuries and improving immune function. In the session your therapist is able to have an overview of your physical structure and fully assess needs for continued treatment and/or homecare such as suggested stretching and stress reduction techniques. Maternity Massage (top) As a Professional Birth Assistant with years of experience in massage therapy, I am happy to provide Moms and Moms-to-be with a special awareness of the many layered transition that is occurring in the body as well as the heart, mind and spirit during this potent time in a woman’s life. Maternity Massage that I practice is holistic and integrative and can be combined with meditation, Reiki, nutritional support and birth services. I am honored to be considered part of your overall health care team during this incredible rite of passage. Massage during pregnancy is therapeutic bodywork which focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of the childbirth experience. Massage therapy enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. The popularity of prenatal massage is the result of a trend toward a higher level of wellness, especially during pregnancy. Many women are postponing childbirth until they have achieved other goals, such as careers and relationships. Because of this, pregnancy is anticipated and enjoyed to its fullest for the wondrous experience it is. Today's pregnant women are looking for alternative approaches to support this potent transitional time for the body. Maternity massage can be done in different ways. Pregnant women may lie on their sides to be massaged, and they can actually lie on their bellies, since specifically designed cushions and maternity massage tables have made it possible for expectant moms, no matter how far along they are, to lie flat on their stomachs. It accomplishes this with a deep center cutout in the cushion or table, so that bellies are accommodated and moms-to-be are relaxed and comfortable. After the first 22 weeks of pregnancy, lying flat on your back can cause pressure on deep blood vessels, due to the growing baby, thereby reducing circulation to you and your baby. To avoid this problem, pillows can be used to ensure that you are bolstered and not lying flat. Body pillows are especially effective for the side-lying position. Benefits of
prenatal massage:
Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular Therapy (top) Deep tissue massage and NMT focus on specific muscle groups to correct any postural distortion and to address injury related structural imbalance in the musculoskeletal system that may be causing faulty movement patterns. Connective tissue is slowly massaged to soften the fascia and relieve ischemia (lack of blood). Specific pressure along with guided breathing techniques help to relieve trigger points and hypertonicity in muscles. Refined strokes that are designed to break up adhesions and release muscle spasms are then applied thereby alleviating pain. This type of massage therapy is great for athletes, others who repetetively use certain muscles and anyone experiencing sudden acute discomfort due to muscular strain or tension. LaStone Therapy(top)![]() LaStone Therapy is the contemporary art of massage therapy joined with the ancient practice of applying heated stones to the body to soothe and relax muscles. Warmed smooth volcanic basalt stones are used to elicit physical healing, mental relaxation and a spiritual connection to earth energy. Warm stones encourage the exchange of blood and lymphatic fluid in the body, creating a cleansing effect, which strengthens the immune system. Deep tissue massage is aided and facilitated by heated stones. Cool stones are applied in areas of acute or chronic injury to reduce pain and inflammation. Warm and cool stones are alternately applied during a treatment, causing what is known as "vascular gymnastics", a process wherein blood is oxygenated and detoxified. This therapy is deeply detoxifying, relaxing and revitalizing to the whole system.
WinterMint Stones(top) In this holiday special body treatment you will receive the healing benefits of warm basalt stones that melt away stresses of the season combined with essential oils of eucalyptus and peppermint for immune system support and aloe for revitalizing hydration. Heated basalt stones are used to massage muscles and support optimum health with their detoxification properties while eucalyptus essential oil is applied over the lungs and bronchial region of the chest and back. The heat from the stones helps diffuse the eucalyptus oil providing sinus clearing and respitory improvement. Aloe and peppermint are applied vigorously at the end of the treatment to stimulate circulation and refreshingly energize you. The aloe is an soothing moisturizer and has medicinal properties for the skin which are well needed as we move into dryer winter days.
